Tactical Urbanism as the Concept of Active Designing of Social-Spatial Practices of a Modern City

Abstract

The study approaches and concepts of urban space development, considered in this work, make it possible to characterize the life of large social groups of urban inhabitants as the system that includes methods of production, related methods of activity, organizational relations, peculiarities of the mentality, level of knowledge, morals, art, religion, law, etc. It is determined  that the life of the urban community combines next elements: a) everyday culture and carries all the everyday life signs, including the environment of the subject-spatial environment, the forms of communication, habits and skills for everyday activities, ways of life organization, work and recreation; b) the area of urban mass culture, created purposefully by the professionals who perform the social order (certain goods and services, buildings and structures, ideas and ideals, as well as lifestyles, permits and habits), c) the scope of public initiatives for its reformation . It is established that among the considered concepts, tactical urbanism as the concept of active and interactive urban space development has a significant potential for the reproduction communities’ social activity and creation of prerequisites for the preservation of cultural identity inside the urban environment. It is established that practical realization of tactical urbanism in the Ukrainian conditions gives an opportunity to experiment with urban social spaces and to receive reliable results for the future development of the city. It is proved that scientific support and substantiation of local processes in specific cities (which give the local authorities the grounds to stimulate the creation of specific platforms for creative professionals and actors that promote the development of innovative ideas and technologies) are important to provide the life of a modern city. This article proves the need to study city people’s perspective towards the optimal development of the interactive environment in urban spaces of modern Ukrainian cities, creating accessible places for creative self resident’s free self expression, exchange of ideas with creative community-oriented professionals who produce creative content and new symbolic images of the city. The study emphasizes the expediency of sociological methods as an instrument for monitoring of the new experience approbation for the further formation of Ukrainian urban communities as full urban development subjects and the correlation of their conscious progress in this direction.
